Don ‘Bree’ Breeley: 59 years old. Retired from GM Stamping Plant. Widower for 15 years…wasn’t a happy marriage. Moved from Grand Rapids, MI, to Cataract, MI, to live permanently at the old family lakefront cottage on Lake Cataract. Don’s great-grandfather put up a variety of outbuildings including a machine shop. Don owns a Suburban and a Harley. He paints pictures of lakefront cottages from his pontoon boat. He enjoys food, cooking, drinking, and dating younger women. He has two children and four grandchildren.
Michele Martin: 58 years old. Michele teaches elementary school in Grand Rapids, MI. She has been divorced for 15 years. She recently bought a backlot cottage behind Don’s place. She enjoys working with ceramics. She has one daughter and three grandchildren.
Mossie: 6 years old. Brown female standard poodle. Likes good people. Good people feel the same about her.
Maudey: An old, strong-willed, eccentric woman who lives in the neighborhood. She has lived in small lakefront cabin for 30 years, since retiring from assembly work in Detroit.
Tom Honey: Local independent home builder and permanent resident. A back-lotter like Michele. Friends with Don. Some Ottawa Indian in his background.
Copper: Red-headed County Sheriff’s Deputy. Quiet. Strong. Don’s friend.
Judy: Athletic DNR Officer. Friend (sometimes very close friend) to Don.
Maria Parker: 30 years old. Maria is Michele’s daughter. She is a teacher at a private school in Grand Rapids . Her husband, Jimmie, was a contractor in Irag, where he was killed. She has three young girls; Micky, Corrie, Lily.
Micky (short for Michele): 6 years old. Maria’s oldest child. Michele’s oldest granddaughter.
Corrie: 4 years old. Maria’s middle child, and Michele’s granddaughter.
Lily: 11 months old. Maria’s youngest child and Michele’s youngest granddaughter.
Alan Breeley: 35 years old. Don’s son. Engineer with firm in Grand Rapids. Divorced with two young children, Jake and Elsbeth.
Jake: 5 years old. Alan’s son. Don’s grandson.
Elsbeth: 3 years old. Alan’s daughter. Don’s granddaughter.
Jackie (Jacqueline): About 28 years old. Met Don when her husband was trying to harass him into doing a painting of their cottage. Jackie is divorcing her husband now. She seemed mousy at first, but has a far stronger personality than expected. Sweet natured when not provoked.
